The connectivity reality of Alderley Edge
Alderley Edge is a challenging area for WiFi and networking. Large detached properties on multi-acre plots, sandstone walls thick enough to kill a signal three metres out, gated driveways, coach-houses, garden offices, pool houses, gyms and separate staff annexes — all expecting to feel like one integrated network. Then the outer lanes: Nether Alderley, Chorley, Great Warford and Mottram St Andrew often have poor fibre coverage despite being minutes from the village. A consumer router and a plug-in mesh unit are never enough. What actually works is a properly surveyed, cabled and cloud-managed network — the same standard of installation you'd expect in a commercial building, applied to a home.
WiFi installation & home network design
We build whole-home WiFi networks around Ubiquiti UniFi, Aruba Instant On and TP-Link Omada — cabled ceiling access points, single roaming SSID, VLAN segmentation for guests / IoT / CCTV / work devices, cloud-managed for lifetime remote support. On typical Alderley Edge properties we deploy 4–8 access points across the main house, outbuildings and coach houses, all on Cat6 or Cat6a with a proper managed switch and firewall.

Mesh WiFi vs proper access points
Mesh has its place — smaller apartments in the village, listed properties where cabling is genuinely impossible, or renters. But for the vast majority of Alderley Edge properties, wireless access points cabled on Cat6 are the correct answer. They deliver full broadband speed at every point, don't degrade as you daisy-chain them, and they'll still be right when your fibre package doubles. See our mesh vs access points comparison for the full picture.
Starlink installation in Nether Alderley, Chorley & the outer lanes
Fibre is patchy the moment you leave the village. On rural Cheshire lanes we install Starlink on chimney mounts, gable brackets or dedicated ground poles — clean sky views, weather-sealed cable entries, and the router properly integrated into the existing UniFi or Aruba network. Common installs both as a primary connection where FTTP hasn't reached, and as a resilience/failover link for home offices, professionals working from home, and Alderley Edge businesses that can't afford downtime.
Garden offices, pool houses & outbuilding connectivity
Alderley Edge properties frequently have serious outbuildings — dedicated home offices, gym annexes, pool houses, art studios, guest cottages and stables. Wireless bridging is a compromise. The reliable solution is a direct-buried Cat6 or armoured fibre run from the main house to the outbuilding, terminated into an access point at the far end, giving full network speed and one seamless SSID across the whole property. Outdoor-rated access points handle pools, driveways, tennis courts and gardens.
Discreet 4K CCTV & smart doorbells
Premium 4K CCTV systems from Hikvision, Uniview and Dahua — colour-at-night, wide dynamic range, ANPR on gated driveways where the property calls for it. Cables run entirely in eaves, soffits and internal voids so the finished install is virtually invisible. NVRs sited discreetly in plant rooms or lofts. Hard-wired smart doorbells on proper 24V transformers, integrated into the CCTV system so it's one app not five.
Structured data cabling for renovations & new builds
Alderley Edge has more high-end renovation and new-build activity per square mile than almost anywhere in Cheshire. Cat6a structured data cabling at first-fix is dramatically cheaper than retrofitting and transforms what the finished property can do. We work directly with architects, main contractors and interior designers to specify and install cabling for TVs, access points, cameras, offices, smart-home controllers, home cinemas and multi-room audio before plaster goes on.

"Bought a large property in Nether Alderley — connectivity was a mess. Six UniFi access points on Cat6a, Starlink on the gable, CCTV around the whole plot and the pool house on the same network. Ran on time, on budget, and it just works. Would use them again without hesitation."
