TV Wall Mounting in Stockport

We pick the bracket from the TV's size, weight and VESA pattern — fixed, tilt or full-motion — and the wall type tells us the fixing. Plasterboard needs proper toggles into noggins or a sub-frame; brick takes resin or sleeve anchors. We check before drilling so the TV stays where it's mounted.

Power and AV cables can be chased into the wall, run behind plasterboard, or hidden in trunking painted to match. We can also relocate the aerial point and add a new socket behind the TV so HDMI runs to your soundbar or media box stay invisible.

Mounting above a working or decorative fireplace is one of the most-asked jobs in Stockport — and the one most likely to be done badly. Three things matter: the bracket must be rated for the TV's weight, the fixing must go into proper brick or stone (never just the plasterboard hood), and heat from a working fire needs to be considered (modern flat-screens really don't like sustained heat above 35°C). We check the wall construction, recommend a fixing system that suits, and route the HDMI / power down behind the chimney breast where possible. Cables can be hidden in a chase or run inside a slim trunking painted to match.

Most TVs we wall-mount are paired with a soundbar — Sonos, Bose, Samsung Q-series, LG, or whatever's been bought. We mount the soundbar centred below the TV (or on a shelf where preferred), run the HDMI ARC / eARC cable cleanly out of sight, and configure HDMI-CEC so the TV remote controls the soundbar volume. If it's a Sonos Arc or full surround setup we'll add the rears and sub to the system, set the room calibration and leave it sounding the way it should.

Every job starts with three specs — TV weight, VESA pattern (100x100 through 600x400) and wall construction — because the bracket has to match all three. A 65" OLED at 22kg on a full-motion arm creates a huge lever load at extension: fine on solid brick with resin anchors, wrong on plasterboard without a proper sub-frame. We stock Sanus, Vogel's and B-Tech ranges — fixed slim-profile brackets that sit 25mm off the wall for a clean finish, low-profile tilt for anti-glare, and full-motion arms rated to the TV's actual weight (not the bracket's headline capacity, which usually assumes a smaller VESA than modern TVs use).

The cleanest install has zero visible cable. On plasterboard we cut a small access hole below the TV, feed HDMI and power down inside the wall cavity, and terminate into a recessed dual gang plate (power socket + brush plate for HDMI/optical). On brick we chase a channel, drop the cables in conduit, and re-plaster before the socket goes in. Above a fireplace the cable route drops down inside the chimney breast and exits at hearth level or into a base cabinet. If a chase isn't practical (solid concrete, listed property) we use a decorative D-line trunking painted to match — properly cut mitres at corners, not the cheap plastic one from Screwfix stuck on with foam pads.

A proper media wall install starts before the joiner does — not after. We agree bracket height (eye-level from the main sofa position, measured), the VESA and TV weight, socket positions (dual gang power + HDMI + optical + aerial + Cat6 for smart TV), and the void depth needed for the bracket. Joiner builds the wall around that spec. We come back after plaster to fit the bracket into the pre-installed noggin, terminate the recessed sockets, mount the TV, wire the soundbar and test everything. The finished wall looks like the TV was built into the plaster.
