The brief: a clean apartment TV installation
The customer wanted the television mounted neatly above the media unit in their Manchester city-centre apartment, without loose AV cables dropping down the wall. The screen position and the cable route both mattered to the finished appearance.
This was a hollow plasterboard wall. Its cavity offered a practical way to hide the signal cables, but the lightweight construction also meant the mounting method needed more consideration than it would on a solid masonry wall. We treated those requirements as one installation, following the same approach as our wider TV wall mounting and hidden-cable installations.
Using the hollow wall to hide the AV cables
The usable cavity allowed the low-voltage AV cables to be fished behind the plasterboard. That kept the route largely behind the finished surface and avoided an unnecessary run of surface trunking between the television and media unit.

Why plasterboard mounting needed more thought
Plasterboard does not automatically rule out a wall-mounted TV. It does mean the wall construction, television, bracket and fixing arrangement need to be considered together. A suitable cable void does not, by itself, establish how the screen should be supported.
On this project, the same hollow wall that helped with cable fishing made the structural mounting more demanding. We selected the mounting method around that construction, rather than treating it as a generic brick-wall installation. A bracket and fixing strategy suited to the wall
The bracket and suitable fixings were chosen together to distribute the television load appropriately across the wall. The fixing arrangement was part of the mounting decision from the start, alongside the screen position and hidden AV cable route.
The useful lesson for an apartment installation is to assess the whole assembly. The wall, screen and bracket determine the mounting approach; the wall cavity helps determine the cabling options. Another plasterboard wall may need a different solution.
