Rural connectivity first

A fast internet connection is only useful if the whole property can actually use it.

Properties across the CW area can be very different from a standard urban house. The incoming connection may arrive at one end of a long building, an office may sit in a converted barn, or the workshop and guest accommodation may be completely separate from the main property.

That is why we treat the internet connection and the internal network as one problem. Starlink can solve a poor incoming connection, but it does not automatically solve Wi-Fi across thick walls, multiple floors, yards or separate buildings.

The useful question is not "which router should I buy?" It is how the connection should reach every important part of the site reliably, without adding equipment that does not solve the actual bottleneck.

Good-fit projects for this region
  • Rural homes with weak fixed broadband
  • Farms, workshops and multi-building sites
  • Large homes with persistent Wi-Fi dead spots
  • Garden offices, annexes and converted barns
  • Hospitality, holiday lets and rural venues
  • Businesses needing resilient connectivity

Starlink and alternative internet

When fibre is not available, do not stop at simply mounting the dish.

Starlink is valuable where the fixed-line options are genuinely poor, but the installation still needs a clear sky view, a secure mounting position, a sensible cable route and a network that can distribute the connection through the property.

We assess the dish position before fixing it permanently, route and seal the cable properly, set up the connection and integrate it with the wider Wi-Fi or network where required. On larger systems that can include a separate gateway, wired access points, remote management or a second connection for resilience.

Starlink is not automatically better than fibre, and 4G or 5G may sometimes be a more proportionate option. We compare the available connection with the way the property is actually used before recommending the route forward.

  • Dish position and obstruction assessment
  • Chimney, wall, pole and suitable bespoke mounts
  • Tidy external cable routing and entry
  • Router placement and network integration
  • Primary or backup connectivity where appropriate
  • Whole-property Wi-Fi planned separately from the dish

Whole-property and outbuilding Wi-Fi

Connect the house, office, workshop and outdoor areas as one planned system.

Thick walls, long floor plans and separate buildings quickly expose the limits of consumer extenders. A rural property may need a wired access point in the house, an outdoor link across the yard and another access point inside the workshop or garden office.

The link between buildings is planned first. Where a cable route is practical, a wired connection gives the strongest backbone. Where it is not, a properly aligned wireless bridge may be appropriate. The Wi-Fi inside each building is then sized around the rooms, users and devices that actually need it.

Existing mesh equipment can often remain where it is working well. The goal is to solve the weak areas rather than automatically replace every box in the property.

  • Large detached and extended properties
  • Garden rooms, annexes and home offices
  • Barns, workshops and garages
  • Outdoor seating and working areas
  • Wired access points and managed Wi-Fi
  • Point-to-point links where cabling is impractical

Data cabling and fibre

Put the important links on cable and use Wi-Fi where it makes sense.

Hard-wired links remove uncertainty from devices that need dependable bandwidth. We install structured cabling with Cat6 and Cat6a for access points, computers, televisions, CCTV, network equipment and other fixed devices, as individual runs or as part of a larger network.

Between buildings, fibre optic links can be the better backbone for longer distances, electrically separate structures or routes where copper would be more exposed. The network can then break out to Ethernet and Wi-Fi at the remote end without trying to stretch one wireless signal across the whole site.

Cable routes and equipment positions are planned around the property. A tidy and understandable backbone also makes future changes and fault-finding much easier.

  • Cat6 and Cat6a Ethernet
  • PoE cabling for access points and CCTV
  • Network cabinets and patch panels
  • External and outbuilding cable routes
  • Fibre links for suitable longer runs
  • Testing and clear labelling at handover

Rural business networks

Connectivity for sites where several systems depend on the same network.

A rural business may have more connectivity problems than a conventional office: a main building, guest accommodation, a workshop, payment terminals, CCTV and outdoor areas may all need to stay connected across one site.

We can plan the internet connection, cabling, switches, Wi-Fi and network separation together, or improve one part of an existing system. Staff, guest, CCTV, card-payment and other device groups can be separated where that makes the network easier to secure and manage.

EDD can work directly with the business or alongside its existing IT provider. Remote management and ongoing support are available for suitable systems where the customer wants a continuing technical relationship rather than a one-off install.

  • Farms and agricultural premises
  • Rural pubs, cafes and hospitality
  • Holiday lets, parks and guest accommodation
  • Workshops and light-industrial units
  • Home-based and remote offices
  • Multi-building commercial sites

Larger connected-technology projects

CCTV and other systems can be included when they form part of the wider job.

CCTV often shares the same cabling, switching and remote-access requirements as the network, so it can make sense to plan both together. Larger renovation or multi-building projects can also include other connected systems where they fit naturally into the same visit.

Routine aerial repairs, simple dish removals and small television callouts are not the main reason for this regional page. For Crewe and the outer CW area, we focus on projects where the scope justifies the travel and where EDD can add value by taking ownership of the wider connectivity problem.

A practical route forward

Work out the connection, then build the network around it.

Starlink, fibre, 4G, Wi-Fi and Ethernet solve different parts of the problem. The best result comes from choosing the right incoming connection and then giving the buildings, rooms and devices a dependable route to use it.

  1. 01

Start with the postcode and the problem

Tell us what connection exists now, which buildings or areas need coverage and what must work reliably.

  2. 02

    Check the sensible connection options

We consider fixed broadband, Starlink, 4G or 5G and the internal network rather than assuming one technology is always best.

  3. 03

Plan how the property joins together

Dish position, cable routes, access points, fibre or Ethernet links and network equipment are planned around the site.

  4. 04

    Install, configure and test

The agreed system is installed and tested across the areas and buildings it is intended to serve before handover.
