Where Starlink ends up affects performance — obstructions, mounting height and cable run all matter. We use the Starlink app to confirm a clear sky view before drilling, secure the dish properly to outlast the British weather, and get the cable into the house with as little disruption as possible.

Bespoke mounting
Standard Starlink mounts don't always suit a UK property — chimneys are often the wrong shape, gable walls don't have a good view of the southern sky, and roof spaces vary. We make up custom mounts when needed so the dish ends up where it'll actually work.
Pole, chimney and roof mount specialists
Most of our Starlink installs end up on something other than the supplied kit. A free-standing ground pole concreted into a paddock or garden gives the cleanest sky view on rural properties. A non-penetrating ballast mount sits on a flat roof without drilling membrane. A chimney lashing kit suits terraces and semis with a tall stack. A gable wall bracket extends above the roofline where the chimney is the wrong side of the property. We fit all of them, sized and rated for UK wind loading — important on exposed Stockport hillside properties around Marple, Mellor and the Peak District edge.

Rural broadband & properties with no fibre
Starlink is the honest answer for a lot of properties on the rural fringe of Stockport — hill-edge cottages above Marple and Mellor, farms around Disley and High Lane, properties down toward the Goyt Valley, and anywhere Openreach has quoted you four-figure excess construction charges for fibre. Where there's no fibre and the copper line is barely delivering 5–10 Mbps, a properly-installed Starlink dish gets you to 150–250 Mbps consistently. Cable entry — where a lot of Starlink installs go wrong
Starlink ships with a proprietary flat cable that is not easily replaceable and cannot be terminated in the field on the standard Gen 2 dish. That means the cable route decides the install. We route it through soffit boxes wherever possible (invisible entry, no drilling of visible external wall), use IP-rated cable glands with a downward drip loop where a hole is unavoidable, and never route through slates or the roof membrane — always through a downpipe-side location or an eaves board. Cable is clipped at proper spacing to survive UK wind loading and UV, and we leave a small service loop at the eaves so the dish can be lowered for cleaning without stressing the cable entry.

Router placement, and getting rid of the stock router
Starlink's Gen 2 or Gen 3 router is fine for a single-room test, but its Wi-Fi is weak, it can't be extended cleanly, and it forces you onto Starlink's app for everything. On most installs we put the Starlink router into bypass mode (Ethernet mode) using the official adapter, plug it straight into a proper router or UniFi gateway, and let your existing mesh or access-point network do the Wi-Fi. You get one SSID across the whole property, VLANs for guests / IoT, proper firewall control — and you keep all the reliability of a real network. The Starlink app still shows dish status but the network is yours.
Failover and load-balancing for home offices
A growing part of our Starlink work is installing it not as primary broadband but as a resilience link alongside fibre. A dual-WAN router (UniFi Dream Machine, PfSense, Draytek) monitors both connections and fails over to Starlink within seconds if the fibre drops — invisible to a Teams call, a VoIP phone system or a working-from-home household. Common on Wilmslow, Alderley Edge and Marple home offices where an hour of downtime costs real money. We set the failover policy, test it, and document it so you know exactly what happens when.
Business & rural Starlink installs
We install Starlink for rural businesses, farms, holiday parks, construction sites, event venues and remote workshops across Greater Manchester, Cheshire and the Peak District. Common uses are card-payment resilience for pubs and restaurants where the fibre line is unreliable, temporary broadband on new-build sites before Openreach turns up, and permanent primary broadband on farms and rural workshops that fibre simply hasn't reached. Every job is a fixed price agreed before we start — no callout charge, no surprise add-ons. Cost depends on the scope of work, the parts needed, access (loft, ladder or scaffold), and how long the cabling needs to be.
