What we install and repair
Whether you've moved into a property with an old dish that's drifted out of alignment, lost signal after the weather, or want a fresh install for Sky or Freesat, we handle the job from survey to working picture.
- New Freesat dish + receiver installations
- Sky Q / Sky Glass dish work and alignment
- Quad and Octo LNB replacement
- Cable replacement and re-routing
- Multi-room satellite distribution
- European satellite — Hotbird 13E, Astra 19.2E
Proper alignment, signal-tested
Satellite is unforgiving — a dish that's a degree out gives a working picture in good weather and a frozen one in rain. We use a proper satellite meter, not a phone app, so the dish is peaked on signal quality and signal strength before we leave.
Freesat — no monthly bill
If you want hundreds of free channels without a subscription, see our dedicated Freesat installation page for details on equipment, pricing and how it compares to a regular TV aerial.
The alignment itself — signal quality, not just signal strength
Satellite dishes are unforgiving. A dish half a degree off Astra 28.2°E (the Sky/Freesat bird) will show 100% signal strength and 30% signal quality — which gives you a working picture in dry weather and a frozen one in the first rain shower. We align using a Horizon or Satlook meter locked to a specific transponder, peaking on signal quality (MER, in dB) with signal strength as a secondary reference. Elevation is set to the arc-second, azimuth is fine-tuned, then the skew is set on the LNB. The three parameters interact — you can't nail one and ignore the others. On a proper alignment you'll see quality readings in the 70–90% band; that's what survives British weather without dropouts.
Common dish faults and honest fixes
Storm damage and normal ageing hit almost every dish eventually. The five faults we see week in, week out.
- Dish drifted a degree or two — realign on meter (£)
- Failed LNB (no signal on one polarity, or noisy picture) — swap LNB (£)
- Corroded F-connectors at the LNB — reterminate and seal (£)
- Water in the cable at the wall entry — replace downlead (££)
- Damaged or bent dish from wind — new dish + realignment (££)
European satellite — Hotbird and Astra 19.2
A regular request from expat households, second-generation families and TV enthusiasts across Stockport. Hotbird 13°E carries Italian, Turkish, Polish and Middle Eastern packages; Astra 19.2°E carries German, French, Dutch and Scandinavian free-to-air. The dish is usually 80cm (bigger than the standard UK 45cm Sky dish) with a Universal or wideband LNB, and alignment is tighter because both satellites sit lower on the southern horizon from the UK. We survey for a clean south-easterly sky view, install the correct dish size for your latitude, align to a picture-quality transponder on the target satellite, and hand over with the channel list scanned and sorted.
Multi-room satellite — quad, octo and dSCR distribution
Older Sky+/Sky Q homes often want to add a second or third satellite feed for a bedroom or a Freesat box after Sky's been cancelled. The right way is either a Quad LNB (four discrete outputs) or, for Sky Q multi-room, a Wideband LNB feeding a dSCR (SCR/JESS) multiswitch — that gives up to 16 independent tuners from a single cable pair. We won't fit a magic passive splitter behind a Sky dish (it doesn't work — the tuner needs its own LNB output for the polarity it's asking for) even though bargain installers still do. Done properly with the correct LNB and multiswitch, one dish comfortably serves the whole house.
What affects the cost
Every job is a fixed price agreed before we start — no callout charge, no surprise add-ons. Cost depends on the scope of work, the parts needed, access (loft, ladder or scaffold), and how long the cabling needs to be. Most quotes can be given honestly over the phone — ring the office on 0161 399 1757 or send a WhatsApp and we'll come back to you the same day.
