Starlink stopped working? Diagnose the whole system, not just the dish

A Starlink fault is not always a failed dish. The same symptom can come from damaged cabling, a loose connection, a power or router issue, a new obstruction, a moved mount, an Ethernet adapter, a third-party router or the Wi-Fi network behind Starlink. We separate those layers so you know what actually needs attention.

Common Starlink faults we investigate

If the system was working and has become unreliable, there are several sensible checks before replacing equipment.

  • Starlink showing offline or unable to connect
  • Frequent dropouts or intermittent service
  • Visible cable damage, hard bends, weather exposure or loose connections
  • Router or power problems
  • Ethernet adapter or third-party router faults
  • Mesh Wi-Fi or access points working badly behind Starlink
  • Trees, buildings or other new obstructions affecting the sky view
  • Dish or mounting position moved after weather, building work or relocation
  • An installation that has never performed properly

How we fault-find a Starlink system

We start with the information the system already provides: Starlink app status and alerts, connection statistics and the obstruction view where available. We then inspect the physical installation, cable route, connectors, power and mounting, and isolate third-party networking where practical. The aim is to work out whether the problem sits with the Starlink connection itself or with the network distributing it around the property.

Starlink cable and connection problems

Starlink's own troubleshooting guidance tells customers to inspect cables and connectors for visible damage, kinks, loose connections, weather exposure and debris. If the cable route or connection is the problem, we can correct the installation, replace suitable customer-approved parts and reroute cabling where required. Where a specific replacement must be ordered through the customer's Starlink account, we'll explain what appears to be needed before anything is changed.

Obstructions, mounting and relocation faults

A system that was fine when installed can change as trees grow, nearby building work alters the sky view, debris appears, or a mount moves. We can review the obstruction data, inspect the mounting position and, where appropriate, re-secure or relocate the dish to a better position. If the existing mount or cable route is poor, we can correct that as a separate quoted repair.

Starlink is online — but the Wi-Fi is still the problem

Sometimes the Starlink connection is healthy and the fault is entirely inside the property. Slow rooms, devices dropping off, poor roaming, double-NAT problems or a badly configured third-party router can all make a working Starlink connection feel broken. In that case we treat it as a Wi-Fi and network problem rather than replacing Starlink hardware that is doing its job.

When the Starlink hardware itself appears to have failed

We do not claim to open or component-repair sealed proprietary Starlink electronics, and we are not Starlink customer support. If diagnosis points toward a failed Starlink router, power supply, dish or other proprietary hardware, we'll explain the likely boundary, help you identify the correct Starlink support or replacement route, and can fit and reconfigure replacement equipment once it is available.

Repairs to systems we didn't install

Yes. A large part of fault work in any technology service is fixing somebody else's installation. We can inspect existing Starlink systems, tidy poor cable routing, correct mounting issues, reconnect or reconfigure networking and explain what is worth repairing versus what should be replaced. We do not need to have fitted the original system.

Business Starlink diagnostics

We also diagnose Starlink used at offices, rural businesses, pubs, farms, workshops, temporary sites and other commercial locations. Where Starlink feeds a wider network, card terminals, VoIP or backup internet, we can trace the fault into the downstream commercial network rather than treating the dish in isolation.

What we cannot control

Starlink account status, billing, service-plan restrictions, wider Starlink network outages, warranty decisions and manufacturer replacement approvals remain with Starlink. We can diagnose the on-site installation and network, but we will not pretend an external provider outage or account problem is an engineering repair we can solve locally.

What affects the cost of Starlink diagnostics or repair

A phone discussion, quote or non-invasive site assessment is free. If hands-on fault diagnosis is needed before the repair scope can be confirmed, we'll explain any diagnostic charge before that work starts. Once the fault and repair scope are understood, the price depends on access, parts, mounting work, cable routing and any network changes required. No parts are changed by guesswork just to see what happens.

Starlink repair coverage across the North West

We cover Stockport, Greater Manchester, Cheshire and surrounding North West areas, including rural and edge-of-network locations where Starlink is commonly used. If the system is further afield but the fault or commercial scope makes the visit sensible, send the postcode and a description of the problem and we'll tell you whether we can help.
