Hardwired, not stuck on with sticky pads
Where there's existing doorbell wiring we use it — so the battery never needs charging and the doorbell stays online 24/7. Where there isn't, we'll discuss the tidiest way to add it (often a short cable run through the porch or hallway).
Setup that actually works
We pair the doorbell with your Wi-Fi, set up your account, configure motion zones (so you're not alerted by every passing car), schedule alerts and show you how everything works on the app.
- Hardwired install with existing chime
- Wi-Fi pairing & signal check
- Account creation & app setup
- Motion zone tuning
- Notification schedules
- Chime configuration & two-way audio test
What affects the cost
Every job is a fixed price agreed before we start — no callout charge, no surprise add-ons. Cost depends on the scope of work, the parts needed, access (loft, ladder or scaffold), and how long the cabling needs to be. Most quotes can be given honestly over the phone — ring the office on 0161 399 1757 or send a WhatsApp and we'll come back to you the same day.
Ring vs. Nest vs. Eufy — what we actually recommend
Ring is the easiest to fit and the most reliable in British weather — good app, mature ecosystem, but most useful features sit behind the Ring Protect subscription. Nest works best if you're already in the Google Home world (camera feeds appear on Chromecast and Nest Hubs). Eufy is the value option — local storage, no monthly fee, but a less polished app. We'll talk through which fits how you actually use your phone, not which has the biggest box on the shelf.
What the install actually involves
A typical hardwired fit takes 45-90 minutes door-to-door.
- Existing wiring tested with multimeter (8-24V AC)
- Compatibility transformer / chime kit fitted if needed
- Doorbell levelled and screwed (not glued) to the frame
- Angle wedge added so motion zone covers the path, not the road
- App account created or paired to your existing one
- Motion zones drawn, schedules set, two-way audio tested
- Walkthrough on the app — alerts, sharing, snooze, recording
Subscriptions explained honestly
Without a subscription, most smart doorbells still ring, still let you talk to whoever's there, and still trigger live motion alerts. What you don't get is video history — if you missed the alert, the clip is gone. Ring Protect Basic (around £3.49/month) and Nest Aware are worth it if you want event recordings; for a lot of customers, live-only is fine and we'll tell you so.
Often paired with
Smart doorbells are a natural pairing with CCTV installation and Wi-Fi setup — if your doorbell drops out, it's usually a Wi-Fi reach problem we can fix at the same time.
