Simple access control without overcomplicating it

Not every site needs a large building-management platform. A care home may simply need visitors to press a call button and reception to buzz them in. A dental practice or office may need staff to use a fob or PIN instead of sharing keys. A hotel, B&B or gym may need controlled user access that can be changed without replacing locks. We start with the entrance, the people using it and the way access needs to work, then specify a proportionate system around that.

Fob, card & keypad access control systems

Fob entry systems, key-fob access systems, card access and keypad/PIN-code access are useful where physical keys are awkward to manage or where access needs to be added and removed more easily. The exact controller, reader, locking hardware and user-management method depend on the door, the number of users and whether local or networked management is appropriate.

  • Staff fob and card access
  • Keypad and PIN-code entry
  • Controlled internal or external doors
  • User setup, additions and removals

Audio & video door entry systems

Door entry systems let a visitor call the person responsible for the entrance before the door is released. Depending on the chosen equipment, that can mean a straightforward audio intercom, a video door intercom with an indoor station, or supported app-based answering. We plan the call point, cabling, power/network requirements and door release together rather than treating the intercom as an isolated gadget.

  • Reception buzz-in door entry
  • Audio door intercoms
  • Video door intercoms
  • Controlled visitor entry

Gate entry systems & gate intercoms

For suitable existing powered gates, we can install or upgrade the access-control and intercom side of the system — for example a video gate intercom, keypad/PIN reader or fob access used to request or authorise entry. Complete gate fabrication, motors and automated-gate safety machinery are a separate specialist scope; if the job needs those elements, we identify that before quoting rather than pretending the intercom and gate automation are the same trade.

Commercial access control for care homes, dentists, hotels, gyms & offices

Commercial access control and business door entry systems are often a good fit for smaller sites where access needs to be controlled without turning the building into a huge enterprise project. Typical examples include care-home reception entry, staff-only doors in a dental practice, hotel or B&B fob access, gym/member entrances, offices, workshops and other small commercial premises.

Access control can sit alongside our existing care-home technology support and dental-practice technology support, keeping the door-entry, network and wider building technology with one local engineering team where that makes sense.

Cabling, networking & CCTV around the entrance

Modern IP door-entry and access-control equipment may rely on structured cabling, PoE, network connectivity or app access. We already design and install Cat6 data cabling, commercial networks and CCTV systems, so the entrance camera, intercom, controller and network can be planned as one job instead of leaving separate contractors to work around each other.

New installations, upgrades & existing systems

We can assess new access-control and door-entry installations as well as straightforward upgrades, additions and faults on suitable existing systems. Before promising a repair, we identify the equipment already installed, the door or gate hardware, available credentials, cabling and the actual fault. If the existing system is proprietary, unsupported or outside our normal scope, we will say so before turning a small fault into an unnecessary replacement project.

Where a specialist scope may be needed

Our normal target is straightforward one-door, few-door or gate-entry systems for homes, small businesses and managed premises. Larger communal or multi-dwelling systems, complex resident-calling platforms, specialist fire-door or fire-alarm interfaces and extensive automated-gate machinery can involve additional design and life-safety requirements. Those projects are assessed individually before we confirm what Evolution can take responsibility for and where another specialist is required.

Common questions

Access control replaces or supplements ordinary keys with a controlled method such as a fob, card or PIN. The system decides when the door can be released and, depending on the equipment, lets authorised users be added or removed without changing the physical lock each time.
