Why pigeons are a problem for your aerial
A pigeon nest on your aerial isn't just a mess — it physically blocks the signal, the droppings corrode the metal elements, and the weight of a nest can knock the aerial out of alignment over time. Most 'why has my TV gone fuzzy' calls in summer end with us pulling a nest off the rotor.
What we install
Discreet stainless steel spikes fitted to the most common perch points — they don't harm the birds, they just stop them landing. Often fitted as part of an aerial repair or new install, but happy to come out specifically for it.
- Stainless steel humane spikes
- Fitted to aerial arms & elements
- Satellite dish edge protection
- Chimney pot & flue protection
- Existing nests safely removed
- Aerial re-aligned if knocked off
Common across Stockport rooftops
We see this most in Stockport, Heaton Chapel, Edgeley and Cheadle — terraced rows with shared chimneys are particularly attractive to pigeons. Marple and Romiley get more issues with seagulls and corvids on flat roofs. We adjust the spike type to suit the bird.
Humane, legal and built to last
The stainless-steel spike strips we fit are the same type used by Network Rail, local councils and listed buildings across the country. They don't trap, injure or kill birds — they just remove a comfortable landing spot so pigeons and gulls move on. We comply with the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981: active nests with eggs or chicks are left alone, and we plan installs outside the main March-August nesting window where possible.
What's on the rooftop matters
We match the spike profile to the structure. Narrow strips for aerial cross-arms and dish rims, wider strips for chimney pots and ridge tiles, and gel deterrent for flat areas where spikes would look intrusive. Everything's UV-stable polycarbonate base with marine-grade stainless pins — a 10-year service life on a properly-fitted job is normal.
Often booked alongside other work
Most bird-spike jobs come up during a signal call — see TV aerial repair or TV aerial installation if you've already noticed picture issues.
